The story of my cornhole journey began on a cold Monday evening in September 2022. Up until that point, I had never even heard of cornhole. That night, a friend invited us to play, and I found myself immersed in the heart of the action.

I couldn’t even land a bag on the board. Full of pride, ignorance about the game, and without the most basic throwing technique, I jokingly challenged one of the best players to a match, confidently telling him, “I’m going to kick your ass.” Deep down, I knew I was likely to lose. It was hilarious to everyone because they could see I could barely hit the board to save my life.

On my way home, I was puzzled. How is it possible that I can’t even get a bag to stay on the board? But more than anything, I was intrigued. I decided there was no way I could be that bad.

The next day, I started thinking. Back in the Caribbean, I was a fast bowler in cricket, throwing a 6-ounce ball with a 9-inch circumference at speeds of 70 to 80 miles per hour—aiming at three stumps that were also just 9 inches wide. There’s no way I could hit that target at high speed yet completely miss a board at a much slower pace. That’s when I began applying some of the techniques I had learned in cricket to cornhole. And just like that, my love for the game was born.

Beyond the game itself, I was drawn to the excitement of intense matches, the energy of passionate players, and the camaraderie among the group. The friendly trash talk, the skilled players showing off their cutting-edge bags, and the deep discussions about speed and throwing techniques—it all fascinated me.

Then a thought crossed my mind: What’s inside these bags, and why can’t I make my own?

That Christmas, Carlene gifted me a set of bags. I was so proud and excited that I took them out to play at the first opportunity. To my surprise, Eric told me they were the fastest bags on the entire website. Not knowing how to throw such a fast bag, I found an 8-foot tabletop at the hall, cut it in two, and made my own cornhole board. The surface wasn’t perfect, but I needed to develop my muscle memory.

After struggling to find quality bags without having to rely on distant suppliers in the U.S., an idea started to take shape: What if I could make my own bags—following all standard regulations—and offer them directly to cornhole enthusiasts here in Manitoba?

That’s how MB Bags was born—with the vision of creating a unique and complete experience for cornhole players in Manitoba.
